🏄‍♂️ Our Mission

As a nonprofit organization committed to providing each surfer with a safe, meaningful learning experiences, we are dedicated to creating a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for athletes, volunteers, families, and fans alike.

📋 General Code of Conduct

All participants, family members, volunteers, spectators, and community members are expected to:

✅ Treat everyone with respect, dignity, and kindness, both in person and online

✅ Use constructive communication—no yelling, name-calling, or personal attacks

✅ Show good sportsmanship—win or lose with grace

✅ Follow all event rules, judge decisions, and safety protocols

✅ Support a safe and welcoming space free of harassment, discrimination, or intimidation

✅ Respect all volunteers, judges, and staff—they are donating their time and energy

✅ Help us protect our beach environment—leave no trace

❌ Unacceptable Behavior

We reserve the right to take action if any of the following occur:

🚫 Repeated hostile, aggressive, or disruptive behavior

🚫 Harassment (verbal, written, or physical) toward competitors, staff, or other families

🚫 Spreading false or damaging claims publicly or privately

🚫 Discriminatory language or actions (racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.)

🚫 Inappropriate use of social media to attack or harass

🚫 Failure to follow our staff members (ex. Judge, announcer, security) direction at events

🚫 Behavior that damages the reputation, integrity, or safety of the organization

💻 Online & Social Media Guidelines

Our association’s social media pages and online spaces are meant to:

• Share updates, achievements, and positive community engagement

• Promote sportsmanship and highlight our athletes

• Encourage open but respectful dialogue

We reserve the right to delete or hide comments, restrict accounts, and/or block individuals who:

• Use inflammatory or disrespectful language

• Repeatedly criticize or harass others and/or our organization on our social media page(s)

• Spam or hijack threads for personal complaints

• Violate the values stated above

• Spreading false or damaging claims publicly/privately

⚠️ Consequences of Violations Depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior, consequences may include:

• Verbal or written warning

• Temporary or permanent removal of competitor and/or parent(s)/guardian(s) from events

• Temporary or permanent restriction from our social media and communication channels

• Revoking your Hawaii Surfing Association – Oahu Season Membership and/or registration for our events

• Suspension of participation privileges for athletes whose parent/guardian violates these guidelines

• Referral to the Oahu board for formal review
